Champions League update: Arsenal 2 - Barcelona 2 (first leg)

This game had everything-
  • An early bombardment of scoring chances by Barcelona (only some of which are shown in the video)
  • Two nice goals by Ibrahimovic
  • Goals by Theo Walcott and Cesc Fabregas
  • Three players who will miss the second leg due to suspensions-- Fabregas, Pique, and Puyol
  • Fabregas fracturing his shin while taking the game-tying penalty kick

Champions League update: Bayern Munich 2 - Manchester United 1 (First leg)

Above: Wayne Rooney lies injured while Bayern Munich celebrates their last second goal.

Update 3/31/10: Yesterday I was too lazy to actually write anything about this match, but a number of things happened which certainly deserve to be written about-- Wayne Rooney's ridiculously easy goal at the 1:04 minute mark; Ribery's free kick goal that ricocheted in off Rooney; Olic's stoppage time goal which came right after Rooney's ankle injury (which could cause Rooney to miss the end of Man Utd.'s season, the Champion's League, and possibly even the World Cup). Somebody else is just going to have to write about these things, however. I am not up to the task.

I wish Milan had a player who could do something like this (just not Ibrahimovic).

Match report: Milan 1 - Lazio 1

  • Goals scored: Borriello 18' (penalty), Lichtsteiner 32'
  • What happened: Roma beat Inter on Saturday to move into second place. Milan needed to win in order to keep pace and move one point back of Inter. Everyone tried very hard, but Milan only managed a tie.
  • Milan players who were unavailable today: Nesta, Pato, Huntelaar, Abbiati, Beckham, Bonera, Mancini (all due to injury); Ronaldinho, Pirlo (due to suspensions)
  • Milan players who played well today: Flamini, Abate, Antonini
  • Strangest quote by the announcer today: "I've just been informed that there is a possibility of the game being stopped for a time due to the fans singing derogatory songs about Clarence Seedorf." (The fans in question were supporters of Lazio.)
  • What this match teaches us: Milan may have too many players injured to compete for the Scudetto.
Highlights are below:

Yet another official announcement from AC Milan #2

Below is a list of the players who are and are not available for today's match versus Lazio. If you read carefully, you will see that it is quite a list.

The 1998 final

My daughter was four years old back then. At the start of the tournament, she predicted France would win. She was very happy when she turned out to be right.

The Chase by Giorgio Moroder from the movie Midnight Express

Match report: Milan 1 - Chievo Verona 0

Clarence Seedorf (above- being chased by his teammates after scoring the game winning goal in stoppage time) helped Milan pull within one point of Serie A leaders Inter.

On the unfortunate side, David Beckham (below) was kicked in the face and then later injured his achilles tendon. He joins the many injured Milan players-- Nesta, Pato, Bonera, etc.

Most importantly, however, Milan are now only one point behind Inter.

I didn't get to see this match, either. Goals by Pato (two) and Borriello. Pato also appeared to get injured.
