In case nobody told you, the Los Angeles Kings, after losing the first two games of their playoff series against the St. Louis Blues, came back to win the next four (and the series).

NHL playoff update #2
Here's what you need to know about last night's round one playoff game between the St. Louis Blues and the Los Angeles Kings--
- The Kings did much better than they did two nights ago in game one (especially for the first two periods). They played the kind of tough, aggressive, chippy hockey that no one likes except when it's their own team that's playing it. The Kings only managed one goal, however.
- The Blues tied it up in the third period on a relatively lucky goal that when in off of Patrik Berglund's skate (click here for video).
- Just when it looked like the two teams were headed to overtime for the second night in a row, Blues defenseman Barret Jackman scored on a wrist shot on a three man rush.
- The Blues now lead the series 2-0.

NHL Playoff update: Flyers 4 - Bruins 3
The Bruins were leading both the series and then Game 7 3-0, but ended up losing both. Philadelphia will now face the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference finals. In the west, it will be the Chicago Blackhawks versus the San Jose Sharks.

A bad night for St. Louis area sports fans

Last night was a rather terrible night for St. Louis area sports fans--
- The Atlanta Thrashers beat the Blues 4-2 in the Blues' home opener;
- An escalator at the Scottrade Center malfunctioned after the game and injured 13 fans;
- Nebraska beat Mizzou 27-12 in football; and, of course,
- The Cardinals lost.

Picture of the day - how Sidney Crosby spent his summer vacation

In case you didn't notice, the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Detroit Red Wings to win the Stanley Cup finals this year. Each player gets to have the trophy for a little while.

Blues beat Predators

The St. Louis Blues don't usually win in Nashville- going into last night's game, they had won only once in their last twelve tries there. Last night was different, though, former Predators goalie Chris Mason blocked 47 shots through regulation and overtime and shut out Nashville. However, the Blues couldn't score, either, so it came down to the mind-bogglingly stupid penalty shootout format that the NHL currently uses (because, like Donovan McNabb, they don't like ties, apparently). The Blues scored twice, Mason stopped both shots he faced, and the St. Louis was the winner - officially the NHL lists that as a 1-0 victory (I'm not sure why). Let's go, Blues!

Two zambonis cleaning a dimly-lit ice rink
Watch as two zambonis clean the ice between periods at the ice arena in St. Louis. What do they call the arena - the Savis Center, ScottTrade Arena, Kiel Auditorium, the Checkerdome? What periods was it between? I have no idea - the Blues were playing Nashville on April 1, 2008. They went up 3-0 early, but lost 4-3 in overtime. That's just what happened.
